Francesc Macià arrives at the Town Hall

At around two, Francesc Macià reached Plaça de Sant Jaume and was greeted with tremendous applause. He went straight into the Town Hall, the rooms of which were crowded with people. Macià had a brief meeting with the Republican councillors and then went out onto the balcony. From there Macià proclaimed the Catalan state, consisting of Catalonia, which will do all it can to immediately achieve the formation of a Confederation of Spanish Republics.
